Working with Stroud-based design studio PDCO who handled the brand identity, print consultancy and website design, Sam's illustrations were created to reflect the individual character and origin of each of the winery's range.
The labels proved so popular that one of Sam's designs scooped an award at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show.
Process: I initially came up with a mood board for each of the six different wines after I had all of the information about their character. The mood boards helped me to form a clear idea of the content and colours that would need to be included in each illustration.

2015 Ten Miles East Saperavi , Adelaide Hills, $45
Medium to full-bodied, juicy and elegant. Ink dark in colour, as you would expect, but retaining a great deal of freshness. Classic iron fist/velvet glove wine whose tight-knitted structure of tannin and acidity unravels beautifully with the right food pairing.
Saperavi is the single most important grape variety in Georgia, in the same way as malbec in Argentina and shiraz in Australia. However, up until now this variety has been almost unknown to Australian wine drinkers. Only recently has it started being grown here by a few innovative winemakers, while at the same time imported wines have started arriving from Georgia.

The definition of a 'young gun' is not about date of birth, but being young at heart. In talking to each of the top 50, some common threads emerge. Time and again, there were stories of winemakers who started to make wines that they wanted to drink for themselves.
These aren't people who set out to make manufactured products to deliver a bottom line. It's about something more substantial. It's about taste.
